Coming up soon is the second annual Wienie 500 which kicks off the 110th Indianapolis 500 festivities on Memorial Day weekend, so PETA has issued a high-octane challenge to Kraft Heinz: pit one of the company’s Wienermobiles against PETA’s “Hell on Wheels” pig truck at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see which vehicle cuts the mustard. In a letter sent today to Kraft Heinz President of North America Nicolas Amaya, PETA offered to rev up the deal if the challenge is accepted by handing out Oscar Mayer’s vegan NotHotDogs to the first 1,000 spectators. PETA’s letter to Amaya is available here.
The timing couldn’t be better: for months, the Wienermobile has been putting the pedal to the metal, working hard to evade PETA’s truck—which looks and sounds as if it’s carrying real pigs to slaughter—at stops across the country, all while the global market for vegan hot dogs is projected to hit $162 million by the end of 2026. Oscar Mayer even sells one!

“It’s time for the Wienermobile to face PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck on the Speedway, and face the fact that vegan wieners are winners,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “The suffering that pigs endure in the meat industry is enough to make anyone lose their lunch, and PETA would relish the opportunity to show race fans that choosing vegan hot dogs is a win for everyone.”
Pigs recognize their own names and show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed. Yet, billions of pigs, cows, and other animals killed for hot dogs each year endure extreme crowding, painful mutilations, and terrifying transport before a violent death. PETA’s Hell on Wheels truck brings that hidden suffering to the streets—and, potentially, to the Speedway.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a pig is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
