As travelers look ahead to summer getaways, PETA is spotlighting the nation’s most compassionate stays with its inaugural Hospitality with Heart Awards—and Hudson Valley’s own The Gray Barn at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary has made the list. Nestled in an animal sanctuary, this award-winning vegan inn features five modern bedrooms, each with a private balcony overlooking the property’s beautiful pastures—plus delicious vegan breakfasts, thoughtful vegan furnishings and amenities, and toiletries that were never tested on animals.
Spread across 135 acres, the sanctuary is home to nearly 300 rescued residents—including cows, goats, pigs, chickens, and sheep—and guests can explore the grounds at their own pace or book a guided tour. Beyond the sanctuary gates, guests can hit local hiking trails, stop by a nearby winery or art center, or seek out even more vegan cuisine at local restaurants. Founded in 2019, the inn pairs warm hospitality with a truly compassionate mission: every stay helps support the sanctuary’s animal residents, so visitors head home knowing their getaway made a meaningful difference.

“The Gray Barn at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary is a beautiful retreat where guests can soak up stunning Hudson Valley views, savor delicious vegan foods, and recharge in peaceful surroundings shared with hundreds of rescued animals,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “Every winner on PETA’s list proves how easy it is to travel kindly, leave animals in peace, and make humane, healthy choices along the way.”
Other winners on PETA’s list include (in no particular order) The White Pig in Schuyler, Virginia; Deer Run on the Atlantic in Big Pine Key, Florida; The Cozy Cottage at Grateful Meadows in West Point, Virginia; Pebble Cove Farm Inn and Animal Sanctuary in Eastsound, Washington; Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York; and Rancho Vegano in Tucson, Arizona.
Each winner will receive a framed certificate from PETA along with bragging rights.
