PETA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for shooting two cats in South Los Angeles. The attacks come amid a growing animal abuse epidemic in the area and chronic inaction from local authorities.
PETA has been working with a local adoption group, which arranged the care for a stray cat named Albert after he was shot with a BB gun in an alley near the corner of West 94th Street and Vermont Avenue. Albert’s condition is stable, but according to his neurologist, the bullet cannot be removed due to the risk of paralysis. He will always have a limp and will likely be on pain medication for the rest of his life. The adoption group told PETA that dozens of animals have been abused in the area lately, including another cat who was shot with a pellet gun and found on the same block as Albert, and that animal control has been consistently unresponsive. There is no known investigation underway.
PETA is also rushing to place its “Here Kitty, Kitty” spot on local airwaves in response to alert the public to the dangers of letting cats roam outdoors. The spot, which features It actor Jaeden Martell, shows a series of sinister characters reaching for a can of gasoline, a golf club, poison, and a shotgun—followed by the warning, “Outdoor cats don’t go missing by themselves.”

“It’s past time that local animal control do their jobs and investigate these shootings before more cats end up injured or dead,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “PETA urges everyone to always keep their cats indoors, report abuse and neglect when they see it, and never walk away from an animal who is in danger or distress.”
Anyone with information on these shootings should contact Friends of Normie at [email protected].
