Going the extra yard, University of Central Florida students will join PETA supporters on Friday—just ahead of Super Bowl Sunday—to hand out hundreds of delicious vegan chicken wings outside the Publix Super Market near Lake Eola Park as they urge football fans to guard birds’ lives and please go vegan on game day when an estimated 1.4 billion real chicken wings are eaten nationally.
“A platter of sauce-smothered vegan wings is the perfect way to kick off any Super Bowl party, or any event,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA joins the students in encouraging football fans to celebrate the big game with tasty vegan snacks that leave chickens in peace, not in pieces.”
Where: Outside Publix at Lake Eola, 400 E. Central Blvd., Orlando (at the intersection of East Central Boulevard and Lake Avenue)
When: Friday, February 6, 12 noon

Why: Chickens form complex social structures, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do. At slaughterhouses, mechanized blades slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious—and many are scalded to death in de-feathering tanks. PETA offers a free vegan starter kit and recommendations for delicious vegan Super Bowl fare for anyone thinking of making the switch.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
