Good eats and great company will await legislators and staff at the Colgate Darden Memorial Garden on Tuesday, when PETA will hold its annual General Assembly Breakfast alongside a pack of rescued dogs—including some like Dave (pictured below) available for adoption. The event will give policymakers a chance to fetch some tasty vegan treats and chat with PETA representatives about legislative priorities, including prohibiting roadside zoos from prematurely separating babies from their mothers, stopping the flow of puppy‑mill dogs into the Commonwealth, banning cruel debarking procedures, and more.
“PETA’s annual General Assembly Breakfast is a wonderful opportunity for lawmakers to grab some goodies and learn about our legislative priorities to advance animal welfare in Virginia, which has the chance this session to lead the nation in protecting animals,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA invites everyone to join us as we explore how we can work together to make Virginia a kinder, safer place for all.”
Where: Colgate Darden Memorial Garden, 1198 Capitol St., Richmond (outside the General Assembly building)
When: Tuesday, February 3, 9:45 a.m.–11:45 a.m.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
