Time to kick off 2026 with a Fresco start! In time for New Year’s resolutions, PETA is plastering bus benches near Taco Bell locations citywide with an urgent plea from a chicken: “Would It Kill You to Get a Bean Burrito?” PETA notes that diners looking to order vegan at Taco Bell can substitute beans or potatoes for chicken or beef, and remove cheese, sour cream, and dairy-based sauces by ordering “Fresco Style.”

“Taco Bell’s customizable menu makes it easier than ever to order delicious, kind meals that are full of flavor and free from suffering,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA encourages everyone to consider who is in their burrito, and let chickens Live Más in 2026 and beyond by ordering vegan.”
Chickens are social learners who watch and emulate one another. They form strong bonds, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do—but in the meat industry, these sensitive, smart animals are crammed into sheds by the tens of thousands and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs often become crippled under the weight. At slaughterhouses, mechanized blades slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious—and many are scalded to death in de-feathering tanks.
PETA’s bench ads can be seen next to Taco Bell locations in Spring Valley, at 8330 Paradise Valley Road, and in San Diego, at 3195 Market Street and 6104 University Avenue.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is filled with tips to help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
