‘Tis the season to go vegan! This Saturday, PETA’s little helpers from Anti Animal Abuse Social Club Omaha will be donning their elvish best on the corner of S. 21st St. and Capitol Pkwy as they gift free meat-free roasts to passersby with a reminder that there’s noel better way to show kindness this season than by choosing vegan.
“Every person who leaves thinking, feeling animals off their holiday menus and opts for delicious vegan roasts is sure to make Santa’s ‘nice list,” says PETA Vice President Heather Carlson. “During the holidays and all year-round, PETA reminds everyone that peace on earth is possible if we choose kindness by going vegan.”
Where: Intersection of S 21st St and Capitol Pkwy, Lincoln
When: Saturday, December 13, 12:30pm

Why: Pigs recognize their own names and show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed, and in nature, turkeys spend their days caring for their young and roosting in trees. But in the meat industry, workers shoot pigs in the head with a captive-bolt gun, drag turkeys through an electrified bath, and slit the animals’ throats—often while they’re still conscious. Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year and reduces their own risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kitsfor people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help those looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
