Ahead of Thanksgiving, Eastham residents Dani Chianciola (14) and her sister Lana (9) are partnering with PETA Kids on a ThanksVegan Vegan Roast Giveaway to give their neighbors some food for thought about who is on their holiday table, and encourage them to leave turkeys and all animals off the menu this holiday season and beyond.

“Dani and Lana embody the holiday spirit, and their love and advocacy for animals will surely inspire others to follow in their compassionate footsteps,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages everyone to let turkeys live in peace this Thanksgiving by choosing one of the many delicious vegan roasts available in grocery stores nationwide.”
Dani was raised vegetarian from birth and went vegan nine years ago after learning about how the dairy industry separates mother cows from their calves, and Lana has been vegan since birth. The sisters were runners-up in PETA’s 2023 All-Star for Animals Contest for their tireless activism for animals, including educating their friends and family that it’s unkind to take eggs, wool, feathers, or anything else from animals, and collaborating on a poetry and art project to advocate for orcas held in captivity. Their mom Kelly is a correspondent with PETA Kids and TeachKind, PETA’s humane education division.
In addition to free vegan roasts, Dani and Lana will be giving away PETA Kids stickers and ThanksVegan holiday guides. Press and community members are encouraged to attend.
Where: Orleans Whole Food Store, 46 Main Street, Orleans
When: Saturday, November 15, 12 noon
Why: In nature, turkeys spend their days caring for their young, building nests, foraging for food, taking dust baths, and roosting in trees, and they can live for over 10 years. But in the meat industry, turkeys’ throats are slit within their first six months of life—and over 46 million are killed every year for Thanksgiving alone.
PETA Kids—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any way”—points out thatEvery Animal Is Someone and offers free vegan starter kits for those looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETAKids.com or follow PETA Kids on Facebook and Instagram.
