Yesterday, while PETA’s hyper-realistic turkey transport truck was parked outside of Food City in Prestonsburg to encourage shoppers to celebrate Thanksgiving with a compassionate vegan meal, police pulled the driver out of the parked truck and booked her on charges of trespassing and resisting arrest—and confiscated the group’s rolling reality check.
“PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ has traveled across the country to promote kindness to turkeys, and only in Prestonsburg was it confiscated and the driver arrested, presumably for her role in showing people how these birds are shipped off to their deaths,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “The people who should be arrested are the turkey farmers who pack these birds into filthy sheds until it’s time to slit their throats, and PETA urges everyone to leave turkeys off the table for Thanksgiving and beyond.”
