Giant Turkey Comes Home to Roost in Times Square

People listening to holiday music in Times Square might not know that turkeys also gobble along to their favorite songs. But they certainly know that these animals don’t want to become a centerpiece after PETA’s humongous turkey hen settled into her sky-high perch to ask folks to consider the plight of these birds and celebrate humane holidays. PETA’s “ThanksVegan” guide makes it easy with dinner ideas, ingredient swaps, and tips for hosting a cruelty-free holiday that’s sure to please.

That Ship Has Sailed! Carnival Cruises, Others End Elephant Encounters

After hearing from PETA about the miserable lives and abusive training of elephants who “bathe” with tourists or are forced to carry them on their backs, Carnival Corporation – the world’s largest cruise line – confirmed it no longer sells excursions to facilities with elephant encounters. Project Expedition, Journeys International, and Discover Corps also dropped these tourist trap horrors, joining more than 50 travel companies siding with elephant protection over elephant exploitation. Please urge the Tourism Authority of Thailand to ban elephant rides at tourist sites.

The Flip Offs Heather Rae El Moussa: ‘Respect Maternal Bond’

Don’t miss this! Fine vegan Brie, vegan Camembert, and vegan blue cheeses – like those Heather Rae El Moussa admires in her new PETA video – deliver the mmm without the cruelty. As a mom, El Moussa knows how powerful the bond is between a mother and her baby. So the star of the hit home renovation series and her son, Tristan, teamed up with PETA to encourage everyone to help families stay together by going vegan. Dairy factory farms forcibly remove calves from their mothers in order to steal the milk produced for those infants. Find your new favorites.

Naike Rivelli: ‘Your Sweater Was Someone’

Italian actor and singer Naike Rivelli joined PETA UK in Milan, where the fashion industry’s International Woolmark Prize was being presented, to urge passersby to leave wool out of their wardrobe. As Rivelli told her 400,000 Instagram followers, gentle, thinking, feeling sheep “endure rough handling, cuts, and stress during shearing – all for a sweater.” Please, always choose sheep-free cardigans, coats, and scarves. And ask Lands’ End, L.L. Bean, and other companies to replace their wool products with innovative, animal-friendly fabrics.

Ex-Envigo Vet Locked Up! More Good News for Dogs

The dominoes continue to fall for Envigo’s beagle factory farm, which supplied dogs to laboratories around the world and was shut down following PETA’s investigation. A grand jury indicted former attending veterinarian Dr. Dawn Marie Gau on 17 counts of cruelty to animals based in part on PETA’s documentation, including of Dr. Gau’s prolonged, botched attempt to put down a conscious dog. Envigo had already been ordered to pay more than $35 million in penalties for such offenses as conspiracy to violate the Animal Welfare Act – the first-ever federal convictions of a supplier of animals for experimentation. Spare more dogs from laboratories by urging your members of Congress to support PETA’s Research Modernization NOW plan. Find contact info at Congress.gov/Members.

PETA India Stops 30+ Pigeon Races

two pigeons embracing each other

In just two months, PETA India worked with police to halt 33 illegal pigeon races in 20 districts. Pigeons used for these gambling events are confined to cramped, filthy cages and must fly beyond the point of exhaustion to get “home.” Some are drugged with opium! These actions are part of PETA India’s work to quash exploitative animal spectacles. Also stopped: numerous horse and bullock cart races in which the animals are whipped and forced to run at breakneck speed.

Barred from working with animals for 11 years! That’s the sentence, along with two years of probation, a Pennsylvania judge handed former guinea pig breeder Malinda King. Police raided her facility after PETA tipped them off to a federal inspection revealing that animals were deprived of necessary medical care, attacked by their severely stressed cage mates, and left to languish in filthy enclosures alongside dead guinea pigs. Officials ordered the removal of the survivors from the property, and King pleaded guilty to three counts of cruelty to animals and seven counts of neglect. Want to help quash cruel breeding operations? Always adopt – never shop.

Up, Up, and Away: PETA India Stilt Walkers Elevate Animal Rights View

Walking on stilts might be a tall order, but kindness to animals isn’t. That’s the message that PETA India supporters spread to different cities as they pointed out that animal-free eating originated in India and that the nation’s constitution mandates compassion for other species. Anyone can reach new levels for animals, the planet, and their own health with a free vegan starter kit.

Sasha Farber was swept off his feet when he met his rescued dogs, Ruby and Grinch. He and Ruby kick up their heels in PETA’s new “adopt – never shop” campaign. “Fostering and adopting has always been something very close to me,” says Sasha. “What you will get is a dog who loves you and will have your back no matter what.” Help others make the right move and share Sasha’s video.

After meeting with PETA, SHEIN – one of the world’s largest e-commerce fashion retailers – banned fur, wild-animal skins, and “exotic” feathers from its in-house brands and third-party sellers. And, as PETA entities have continued to reveal how feathers are torn from bloodied birds, Ibiza Fashion Festival signed PETA’s Feather-Free Pledge, the Eurovision Song Contest finale was notably feather-free, and Australian Fashion Week said “so long” to wild feathers as well as fur and wild-animal skins. Luxury department store Harvey Nichols confirmed that it does not sell wild-animal skins, and Renault, which offers vegan car interior options, committed to completely steering away from animal leather by the end of 2025. Companies do listen to consumers, so please keep speaking up! Please urge Louis Vuitton to stop using wild-animal skins.

‘Chimp Crazy’ Villain Pinched, ‘Tiger King’ Dethroned: Haddix and Antle Go to Prison

tonia haddix and a chimpanzee named tonka

Chimp Crazy’s serial chimpanzee jailer Tonia Haddix and Tiger King scoundrel Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, who operates the seedy Myrtle Beach Safari, are learning what it’s like to be stripped of freedom, locked in a dismal cage, and controlled. Following PETA’s determined legal efforts, both are behind bars. Haddix was sentenced to 46 months in prison and three years of supervised release on charges of perjury and obstructing justice after she caged chimpanzee Tonka in her basement, told a federal judge he had died, and disobeyed a court order to surrender him to PETA. The judge also ordered her to pay $225,000 for PETA’s attorneys’ fees and other costs. Haddix had been released on bond until authorities caught her hiding yet another chimpanzee in her home in violation of her consent agreement with PETA barring her from possessing another chimpanzee. PETA ensured that all of the chimpanzees Haddix abused were transferred to accredited sanctuaries.

A federal judge sentenced Antle to 366 days in prison, a $55,000 fine, and three years of supervised release for conspiracy to violate the Lacey Act, which prohibits trafficking of illegally taken wildlife, including animals protected under the Endangered Species Act, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. PETA is working to shut down Myrtle Beach Safari and ensure that the big cats and other animals still imprisoned there will be released to reputable facilities. You can help get animals out of the hands of abusive exhibitors.

The El precio de amarte star, who shared her new PETA Latino ad with her millions of social media followers, notes that ending the gory events “isn’t about banning culture or tradition, it’s about banning cruelty to animals.” Want to help bulls escape bloodshed? Urge Pope Leo XIV to end the Catholic Church’s support of bullfights.
