Before Love Island USA star and Houston native Kordell Beckham coupled up with fellow islander Serena Page, he says he fell in “love at first sight”—with his adopted feline companion, Milo! Ahead of his upcoming starring role in Keke Palmer’s Southern Fried Rice Key TV series, the doting cat dad appears with Milo in a new PETA campaign urging everyone to adopt, not shop—and to help make it a love that lasts by giving their animal companions the best possible care.
In an accompanying video spot, Beckham says he “knows a thing or two about finding love” and that the key to any good relationship “is listening so you can give them what they need”—which, for cats like Milo, means plenty of affection, making sure their litterbox is clean and tidy, and keeping them safe indoors.

PETA notes that cats allowed to roam outdoors are at risk of ingesting poison, contracting fatal diseases, enduring violence and abuse at the hands of cruel people, being attacked by predators, being hit by cars, or falling victim to many other dangers. “Milo’s family, so it’s my job to protect him,” Beckham says.
Beckham’s other tips for responsible cat guardianship include making sure they’re spayed and neutered—which helps animal companions lead longer, healthier lives—and never subjecting cats to excruciating mutilations like declawing, which often causes nerve damage, infection, and immense pain. (“The bone is amputated to the first knuckle. No way.”)
And when it comes to buying an animal from a breeder—who churn out litter after litter into a world already bursting at the seams with homeless animals—Beckham says that’s a “dealbreaker.” “Now why on Earth would you do that when there are so many amazing animals at the shelter you can adopt?”
“If you’re looking for a real connection, you can’t buy love,” Beckham says. “But you can adopt a cat.”
To help cats live their best lives inside, PETA offers a free catio-building guide, as well as a “cat guardian’s bible” written by PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, available for purchase here.
Beckham joins a long list of celebrities—including Leah Kateb, Chrishell Stause, Kathy Griffin, John Stamos, Ryan Eggold, Theo Rossi, and Cristin Milioti—who have teamed up with PETA to promote adoption.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
