minutesEveryone loves pasta with red sauce. Add vegan meatballs and it’s an icon.
In less than half an hour, you can go from sitting around getting hungry to sitting down to hot vegan spaghetti and meatballs (with a clean kitchen and a clean conscience, no less). This vegan pasta hack is like having a magic trick up your sleeve come dinnertime.
The secret is relaxing and not worrying, just throwing it all together. And a pressure cooker. Any kind will do; an Instant Pot or similar “3rd Generation” pressure cooker is the easiest to use, but the more affordable first-gen pressure cookers work perfectly well.
You also won’t have to worry about the pigs and cows who end up as meatballs. Pigs are sensitive beings who express a complex range of emotions, including empathy for one another, through vocal communication. Cows and bulls are social, caring animals who have best friends and express their feelings for one another with facial expressions.
It’s so easy you feel like you’re cheating: you basically just throw some spaghetti, sauce, vegan meatballs, and water in the pressure cooker and let it do its thing.
It’s incredibly affordable, too. At my local supermarket, I can get all of the ingredients—enough to feed four people—for less than ten dollars.
Put it together with a green salad and maybe a glass of wine, then enjoy all your free time!

Ingredients
1 24 oz. jar vegan pasta sauce
1 16 oz. package vegan spaghetti or other pasta
1 12 oz. pouch vegan meatballs
50 oz. hot water (about 2 jars of water)
Directions
- Put the pasta in your Instant Pot or other pressure cooker. If it’s long, like spaghetti, break it in half. Arrange the pasta so it is not in clumps.
- Dump in the vegan pasta sauce.
- Add hot water to cover the pasta. If you use the jar to measure, be careful that the hot water does not crack it. Cool water works, but the cooking time is longer.
- Add the vegan meatballs. Frozen or thawed, it doesn’t matter.
- Cook on high pressure for 8 minutes, then quick release.
- The pasta will appear soupy at first. Stir gently and give it a few minutes to absorb the liquid.
- Serve with vegan parmesan and cracked pepper.
