Outrageous! This Tourist Poured Beer Down an Elephant’s Trunk
An elephant never forgets—and neither does the internet! A tourist who posted a video of himself pouring beer down an elephant’s trunk is facing backlash for his reckless stunt. Not only did he endanger the elephant’s health, but he also risked his own life.
No Joke: Pouring Beer Down an Elephant’s Trunk Could Have Been Deadly
Hundreds of furious comments and an investigation by Kenyan authorities quickly made it clear that the incident was no laughing matter. The tourist apparently recorded the video during a safari in Kenya—violating the preserve’s rules—and posted it online in late August 2025. That same week, he shared photos of himself at another facility feeding a rhino he wasn’t supposed to touch—yet another blatant disregard for rules and animals’ well-being.
Bupa, the elephant, could have suffered dire consequences for this tourist’s twisted “joke.” Elephants have sensitive digestive systems, and there is no evidence that elephants can safely consume alcohol. What this man thought was a joke could easily have caused lasting harm.
The beer-guzzling man likely didn’t know he was also putting his own life in danger, but hopefully has since learned. As one selfie-seeking tourist in India recently learned, elephants can, and do, protect themselves and their families when they feel threatened. There are hundreds of documented incidents of elephant attacks around the world, and in North America alone, several have resulted in injuries and death.
Animals Are Not Photo Ops: Take Action for Elephants Today
Because of his selfish desire for photos with wildlife, the tourist put Bupa in danger. Elephants are highly social animals who form close bonds with their families and mourn the death of their loved ones. These gentle, emotional animals do not want to be exploited for photo ops, circuses, or for any other reason. Animals aren’t selfie props; they’re individuals who deserve respect.
