Animal abusers beware, the Chicken Avenger is here! Inspired by Cynthia Valeska Díaz Sosa, the Key West woman who stood up for birds by macing a chicken-killing driver, PETA is rolling out its newest limited-edition Halloween costume. On July 9, Díaz Sosa stopped her car on a road to allow a chicken to pass when another driver sped around her and hit the bird, killing them. Díaz Sosa then allegedly followed the driver and when she stopped, yanked open her door and doused the killer with bear mace.

The exclusive get-up features a cutout car carrying a flock of happy hens, a “stop for chickens” sign, a “chicken liberation” license plate, and, of course, a can of bear mace. It’s available for preorder at the PETA Shop, and all proceeds will benefit PETA’s lifesaving work.

“Díaz Sosa’s story has sparked a conversation about giving animals the respect and space they deserve,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA encourages everyone to stand up for animals on Halloween and every other day by acting swiftly when they see one in need.”

PETA’s previous headline-grabbing Halloween costumes include “Cricket’s Revenge,” featuring puppy killer Kristi Noem, and a pro-adoption Pete Davidson costume inspired by the expletive-ridden voicemail the comedian left after PETA called him out for buying a dog from a pet store.

Chickens form complex social structures, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do. They can recognize the faces of up to 100 individual flockmates, and mother hens begin teaching chirps to their babies before they even hatch.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
