Statement: Anna Wintour Steps Down, PETA Reflects on Changing Times

Following today’s announcement that Anna Wintour is stepping down as Vogue Editor-in-Chief, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk:

“There was a time when PETA occupied Anna Wintour’s offices at Vogue to protest its fur promotions—even answering the phones and being eventually hauled out by police—but those times passed, and Ms. Wintour is no longer seen in the furs she used to wear. While she changed over time, her departure marks the end of an era before fur was dead and when people treated other species as commodities rather than individuals who deserve to be respected.”
