Save Monkeys, Urge Avia Solutions Group to Stop Flying Them to Laboratories
Here’s the good news: SmartLynx Airlines is dead. Being one of the only airlines left flying monkeys to their deaths in laboratories clearly wasn’t such a smart link to profitability. It’s done. Out of business. Kaput.
The bad news is that it’s entirely possible the company’s owner, Avia Solutions Group, will designate one of its other airlines as the next Flying Death Merchant.

SmartLynx was crumbling under debts of some $280 million. The Latvian National Police have launched a criminal investigation into exactly how the company accumulated that debt, possible fraud charges, and the alleged fictitious sale of the airline to a new owner, according to news reports.
Meanwhile, the company’s CEO, Edvinas Demenius, has apparently scrammed away for an “extended vacation” in Bali after the law started sniffing around. But it’s unlikely anyone crammed Demenius into a tiny wooden crate and shoved him and hundreds of other CEOs into the hull of a plane for a 24-plus-hour flight while sitting in his own excrement and wondering if he was going to die, like the monkeys SmartLynx so willingly moved around the globe.

Possible fraud, mountains of debt, and a head honcho reportedly absconding to a warm beach thousands of miles away from trouble. It’s about what we’d expect from a company willing to cart sensitive monkeys from their forest homes for short, painful lives of torment where even death comes only when experimenters say so.
Avia Solutions has no end of these companies in its arsenal, though. SmartLynx was merely the next in line after the fall of Bluebird Nordic, another Monkey Death Merchant owned by Avia Solutions.
