Sen. Cory Booker Receives PETA Leadership Award for Tireless Work to Protect Animals

PETA honored Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) with a Congressional Leadership Award today for his years of advocacy for animals.

Booker’s pro-animal actions include passing the groundbreaking Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Modernization Act 2.0, which allows pharmaceutical companies to use animal-free methods to test new drugs, sparing countless animals from painful and pointless experiments.

Booker, a longtime vegan, also works to improve welfare standards for animals exploited and killed for food, has called for an investigation into the National Institutes of Health’s funding of the deeply troubled Washington National Primate Research Center and questioned the FDA’s recent requirement for tests on animals for sunscreens, which have been used safely for decades.

“Sen. Booker is a tireless defender of animals, and his record shows it,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is proud to honor Sen. Booker for his leadership in protecting animals.”
