PETA Statement re Neglected, Malnourished Dog Left Tethered Outside in Freezing Cold in Nash County

An underweight dog named Hank was found chained to a tree in frigid temperatures on Sunday in Nash County, which is the same county PETA found horribly neglected and dead dogs last Christmas. In April, PETA was scheduled for a presentation with the county’s Board of Commissioners to advocate for adequate protections for dogs, but the Board canceled the presentation on short notice and declined to even set a new date. Below, please find a statement from PETA Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations Daphna Nachminovitch:

Yet another dog in Nash County has been found suffering at the end of a chain in the freezing cold. This dog’s apparently neglectful owner, who seemingly thought nothing of leaving this ribby, short-haired dog tied up outside alone in the cold but had the audacity to demand payment for the dog’s release, should immediately be charged with cruelty to animals and ordered to pay restitution to the rescue group that saved this animal’s life in the nick of time. PETA urges Nash County Commissioners to pass a prohibition on chaining before more dogs suffer and die.
