PETA Statement re Louisiana Racing Commission’s Medication Rules Change

Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding the Louisiana Racing Commission’s changes to medication rules, including decreasing the amount of time before a race in which a horse can be injected with dangerous and controversial drugs, including the bronchodilator clenbuterol and Depo-Medrol, which is injected in horses’ joints and can mask dangerous injuries:

The Louisiana Racing Commission is communicating loud and clear that horses are expendable tools in its greedy game. While much of the racing industry is tightening rules to prevent deaths, Louisiana is opening the door to welcome them. Since money is apparently the only thing that matters to the commission, the rest of the racing world should immediately send a clear condemnation by eliminating the state’s tracks from all simulcasts and betting platforms.
