“Milk is for babies! Dump dairy!” That’s the message attendees at the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies’ annual Earth Day conference will get on Tuesday, along with a tasty treat from PETA supporters—accompanied by giant inflatable babies—who will be handing out free Babybel Plant-Based cheese snacks and reminding people that saving the planet by going vegan is as easy as taking candy from a baby.

When:    Tuesday, April 18, 1:30 p.m.

Where:    Outside the University of Wisconsin–Madison Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard St., Madison

The group will also play an apocalyptic video alongside the giveaway, urging viewers to invest in their children’s future by banning environmentally devastating meat and dairy from their homes.

“Cows love their calves, and cow’s milk is meant for baby cows—not humans—which is why it’s called cow’s milk,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges everyone concerned about the well-being of cows, the state of the planet, or the health of their kids to ditch dairy and indulge in the many delicious cashew, almond, and other plant milks and cheeses available.”

Animal agriculture is one of the biggest drivers of the climate catastrophe and the single largest source of U.S. methane emissions, which have 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide. Every individual who goes vegan spares the lives of nearly 200 animals a year and saves 1,100 gallons of water, nearly 40 pounds of grain, and 30 square feet of forested land every day.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—offers free vegan starter kits to help anyone make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org, listen to The PETA Podcast, or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
