PETA Statement: First Horse Dies at Calgary Stampede This Year

Despite warnings from PETA and animal advocates from across Canada, chuckwagon races are proceeding at the Calgary Stampede—and one horse used in them has already sustained a grave injury and been euthanized. Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman:

Catastrophic injuries and deaths will be inevitable as long as the Calgary Stampede forces horses to pull wagons at breakneck speeds. Since more than 70 gentle horses have been run to death at this event so far, PETA is calling on Alberta Premier Jason Kenney to end the chuckwagon races before the death toll rises.
