Texas A&M Graduation to Face ‘Coffin’ of ‘Dead Dogs’

As attendees arrive at Reed Arena for Texas A&M University’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, PETA supporters posing as pallbearers will carry a “casket” overflowing with “dead dogs”—a somber scene shaming the school for failing to honor its pledge to put healthy dogs used in its notorious canine muscular dystrophy (MD) laboratory up for adoption. The laboratory’s lead experimenter, Peter Nghiem, backpedaled and sent nine healthy dogs to Texas A&M’s veterinary school laboratory instead.

“Dogs suffered and died for years inside Texas A&M’s gruesome canine muscular dystrophy laboratory, and the very least the school can do is to give these nine healthy dogs a new lease on life,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA will take them all, no questions asked, and find them the loving homes they need and deserve.”
PETA has released video footage from inside the MD laboratory revealing grim conditions for the dogs, who were caged in barren metal cells. In 2019, under pressure from PETA supporters, physicians, and people with muscular dystrophy, Texas A&M stopped breeding the dogs to develop the disease. More than 50 have been released for adoption.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
