Feathers are set to fly on Friday as a bandaged “turkey” with a gravy boat full of “blood” joins PETA supporters outside Wegmans to cry foul at the supermarket company’s partnership with Plainville Farms, where a PETA undercover investigation revealed that workers kicked, choked, stomped on, and sexually abused birds, in addition to beating them with a heavy metal rod. PETA’s investigative footage will play on site to let customers judge for themselves how turkeys sold at Wegmans were treated when alive.

When:    Friday, March 18, 12 noon

Where:    Outside Wegmans, 1750 East Ave., Rochester

“Most shoppers oppose cruelty to animals and will be horrified to learn that Wegmans supports a company whose workers abused and injured helpless birds just for fun,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Wegmans to reconsider its ties to this cruel company and is reminding compassionate consumers that the only truly ‘humane’ meal is a vegan one.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
