Below, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in response to the announcement that British Columbia will prohibit keeping live minks on farms in 2023, with all pelts to be sold in 2025—both moves sure to guard animals’ lives:

“Pamela Anderson to the rescue—again! After the B.C.-born Baywatch star teamed up with PETA and persuaded Premier John Horgan to close down mink farms, it appears that the government finally got the message. By shuttering these COVID-19 hotspots, the province will be safer for public health and kinder for gentle minks, who will no longer be forced to endure a cycle of torment, abuse, and slaughter.”

In its push to shut down mink farms, PETA has also published an investigation with footage from Malcolm Klimowicz, who filmed mink farms in Canada, and the group has targeted the premier with a petition signed by Canada residents.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
