Tipster to Receive PETA Reward in Fatal Dog-Burning Case

For providing information that helped land a 10-year prison sentence in a lethal cruelty-to-animals case, an anonymous tipster will receive a check from PETA. Bryan Matthews of Henderson has reportedly pleaded guilty to charges of cruelty to animals and arson after Duke, a dog reported missing by his guardian, was found burned to death in a men’s bathroom last year. According to police, the tipster’s information was crucial in breaking the case.

“No sum of money can bring Duke back or erase the agony that he endured, but everyone should feel relieved that other animals are safe from this killer,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages the public to speak up for vulnerable animals, just as this tipster did.”

To avoid tragedies, PETA cautions families to keep an eye on animal companions when they’re outdoors and never leave them unattended in the backyard.
