Please see the following statement from PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Cases Dr. Alka Chandna, Ph.D., regarding an Official Warning issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the University of Texas–Austin for its violations of federal animal welfare regulations.

A just-released federal report obtained by PETA reveals that the University of Texas–Austin has received an Official Warning from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its violations of federal animal welfare regulations. The warning won’t undo the trauma and agony endured by animals in the school’s laboratories, where experimenters failed to give adequate pain relief to a monkey who needed it, a marmoset sustained injuries after another marmoset escaped because a cage hadn’t been properly secured, and a vole was improperly euthanized and found alive, likely in a pile of dead bodies—but it shows that UT-Austin should get out of the dirty, bloody animal experimentation business and redirect its resources toward modern, non-animal research methodologies that will actually help humans.
