Please see PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo’s statement regarding the possibility that Emory University may drop Robert Yerkes’ name from its primate center, since he was a proponent of eugenics:

Robert Yerkes pioneered imprisoning and experimenting on primates and so was a proponent of human—as well as white—supremacy. Emory can only fully erase his legacy of oppression when it stops tearing baby monkeys away from their mothers, addicting monkeys to drugs, cutting into their brains, infecting them with diseases, and killing them—in addition to modernizing its research protocols so that it’s no longer terrorizing any sentient beings.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
