Washington -- Wearing nothing but strategically placed lettuce leaves, Playboy Playmate of the Year and stunning vegetarian Jayde Nicole will hand out tasty, humane, and healthy veggie hot dogs on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. The action marks National Veggie Dog Day--PETA's answer to the meat industry's National Hot Dog Month.
When: Wednesday, July 15, 12 noon
Where: Rayburn House Office Building courtyard, main entrance, Independence Avenue S.W. and First Street S.W., Washington, DC
Why do Jayde and PETA love veggie dogs? Meat consumption has been linked to heart disease, strokes, certain types of cancer, and even impotence, and vegetarians are, on average, significantly fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are. If that isn't enough to make even the most die-hard carnivore go vegetarian, the suffering of factory-farmed animals and the environmental damage caused by meat production might do the trick. According to a U.N. report, raising animals for food is the leading source of the greenhouse-gas emissions that cause climate change.
"In my business, looks can make you or break you, and nothing has helped me stay fit, trim, and energetic more than kicking the meat habit," says Jayde. "The best way to safeguard your health, reduce your carbon footprint, save animals' lives, and look your very best is to go vegetarian."
