New York -- As Fashion Week opens in New York, PETA has found a new way to pressure Vogue editor and fur queen Anna Wintour to keep fur off her magazine's pages. Knowing that she remains unmoved by upsetting images of animals struggling in traps, PETA will draw her attention to an upsetting image of herself. Dozens of protestors will hold up signs bearing a photograph of Wintour grimacing along with the slogan "Fur Is Worn by Beautiful Animals and Ugly People." The protest will take place outside the "Fashion's Night Out" event, which is hosted by Wintour at Macy's in Queens.
When: Thursday, September 10, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Outside Macy's, Queens Center Mall, 9015 Queens Blvd. (Queens Boulevard at 57th Avenue), Flushing, Queens
Wintour remains a top PETA target because of her relentless promotion of fur in Vogue and her refusal to allow even paid anti-fur advertisements to appear in the magazine.
"Wintour is trying to make shopping during the recession fun again, but there's nothing amusing about skinning foxes, minks, and rabbits alive for their fur--a practice that we have documented on fur farms," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman.
