Natalie Portman’s Special Dior Treatment

Written by PETA | December 10, 2010

I have but two great loves in life: animals and shoes. But there’s nothing I hate more than when the latter causes the former suffering. So I was over the moon—and slightly jealous—when I heard that mayjah fashion house Dior had made special vegan shoes for the new face of its Miss Dior Cherie campaign, Natalie Portman.

Portman, a vegan shoe designer herself and a girl after my own heart, has been known to rock Stella McCartney on many a red carpet. (BTW, did you hear that I’m giving away a Stella McCartney bag on PETA’s Facebook page?) But for her media appearances promoting Black Swan (my new favorite movie), she’s been switching it up between McCartney accessories and her veganized Dior shoes.

“One of the things that’s been so nice is that Dior made all of the shoes for me with no animals and no leather or anything, because I don’t wear any leather,” Portman told “They remade all my shoes so I can wear Dior shoes without taking lives.” Ya, that’s pretty nice.

Love her, smart, beautiful, and kind! But I have to vent a moment, I cant tell you how hard it’s been to find myself a winter jacket that is not made from wool, goose feather, fur or leather. I dont have alot of money, so I cant special order one, and I have been to every store that I can think of!! It reslly sucks! So this winter, the saying “I’d rather go naked then wear fur” really reigns true for me!

I TOTALLY AGREE with iLoVeHeR,tOo when he/she said:

“Yeah, but she is supporting a company that does use leather. I love Natalie Portman, and I hope she has a positive influence on Dior, because otherwise it’s bordering on hypocrisy.”

Wish Dior would do that for the rest of us. If they can figure it out, then what keeps them from making their entire line cruelty free fashion?

  • Kate says:

Gala is absolutely right. It is great that people take a stand on the issue of animals. Especially people as beautiful and talented as Natalie Portman. It makes me feel so good about being a fan of hers.

  • Barbara Lovett says:

It seems that Natalie Portman is a class act who puts her beliefs into action. I wish she would speak up more about animal rights issues and let us know her thoughts. It would be lovely if she would get involved with Sea Shepherd and the needless slaughter of dolphins and whales in Japan. Her voice would make a huge difference!

  • Allen Sentinery says:

Hey Dior, it’s time to send them to Warhol’s Interview for marketing.

  • Gala says:

Not only is she beautiful, but caring as well. It’s good to see more people taking the front line when it comes to protecting all life.
