Many of Sarah-Jane Honeywell's fans—the children who know her as the presenter of two British kids' TV shows—might not have recognized her earlier this week when she was nearly naked and lying on a plate.
Honeywell stripped off the bright, hip clothes she normally wears to ask people young and old alike to understand that the meat on their plates came from living, thinking, feeling beings. "Going vegan is the best decision I've ever made," she said. "I have tons of energy, and I know that I'm not contributing to animal suffering."
Still not convinced that the meat in front of you is a "who," not a "what"? Watch PETA's Glass Walls video, narrated by another famous Brit, Sir Paul McCartney, before deciding if you can look your cat or dog in the eye while eating someone who is just as capable of experiencing joy and sadness.

Great things happen when studs meet suds. With Gay Pride starting in Las Vegas, it was the perfect opportunity to debut our first all-male shower demonstration. When our vegan guys stripped down to show passersby that meat production demolishes natural resources, even in Vegas people stopped to pay attention.
The hundreds of people taking pictures with the boys learned that the amount of water needed to produce 1 pound of meat is equivalent to six months of showers. So, not surprisingly, our "Meat's Not Green" leaflets and vegetarian/vegan starter kits flew out of the demonstrators' (slightly soapy) hands.
We can't send you the guys (sorry), but we can send you a free vegetarian/vegan starter kit.
Temperatures in Los Angeles were normal this afternoon, but on Rodeo Drive, it was positively steamy as Elisabetta Canalis unveiled her "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad to an enthusiastic crowd, getting the fall shopping season off to an animal-friendly start.
Elisabetta explained why she wanted to go nude to protest fur, saying, "That is what is required to keep people's attention on such a brutal practice. … These poor animals are electrocuted, skinned alive, drowned, and bludgeoned just for the sake of fashion."
The Italian model and actor wants her furry home country to go faux, too, so PETA is placing billboards and posters of the ad throughout the fashion capital, Milan.

What do you get when you cross a chicken with a Vegas showgirl? Cupcake Chicks! PETA staffers Ashley Byrne and Amber TeGantvoort took up position near the White House to hand out yummy vegan cupcakes from Sticky Fingers Bakery and let people know that there's a tasty way to beat the salmonella outbreak. The proof is in the pudding, er, cupcake, and judging from the speed with which the confections disappeared, I think it's safe to say that we proved our point.

Forty spectators were hurt when a terrified, frantic, and injured bull leapt for his life from a Spanish bullfighting arena and ran through the stands trying to escape. We regret that there is no shame in Navarra: The bull was recaptured and killed.
Some media outlets have spun this story as if the bull were the aggressor, but what else would he have tried to do but flee when crowds of screaming people were taunting him? Unlike a typical bullfight in which bulls are repeatedly stabbed until they die in a pool of blood, in this particular twisted event, a bull is subjected to constant goading in multiple events until he eventually ends up in a typical—and deadly—bullfight.
Bullfighting is on the way out. Last month, Spain's Catalan parliament voted to ban bullfighting in response to public demand. Add your voice by asking Spain's prime minister to ban this hideously cruel blood sport throughout the country.

I don't think this quite qualifies as a work perk: Starting next year, obese government workers in South Carolina will be able to get stomach-shrinking surgery through the state's health insurance plan. Lawmakers created the new "benefit" in order to combat the state's growing obesity epidemic.
While it's great that the government wants to help its employees slim down and live longer, such drastic and expensive—oh, and sometimes dangerous—measures just aren't necessary. The government can best help workers shrink their waistlines—and health care costs—by taking PETA's advice and encouraging employees to go vegan. Wouldn't you rather lose weight by eating great-tasting vegan food than by enduring a painful operation at taxpayers' expense?

Philanthropist and activist Madeleine Pickens needs your help to save a whole bunch of wild horses who are now in peril.Our pal Madeleine's "Pony Express Campaign" is working to stop Bureau of Land Management (BLM) round-ups in which wild horses and burros suffer great anguish when they are captured, housed in barren pens, and separated from their families. The BLM rounds up thousands of horses and burros every year, claiming that they are "saving" them from crowding and starvation. But in reality, the BLM is working to keep them off millions of acres of public lands that are leased to agribusiness companies for cattle grazing.
Madeleine's first goal is for President Obama to issue an executive order stopping the round-ups. She then plans to set up a sanctuary of more than 1 million acres—she already has them!—for the tens of thousand of horses who have already been captured, and she ultimately plans to adopt, sterilize, and release them to live freely on protected land. Madeleine's vision is to preserve the legacy of American history and encourage people to visit, appreciate, and respect wild horses.
Jump aboard Madeleine's Pony Express by signing this letter, which Madeleine will personally deliver to the president from the back of her adopted mustang. The deadline to collect 20,000 signatures is September 1.
