Executive Director – Coalition for Pets and Public Safety

Under the general direction of the Board of Directors or its designated representative, the Executive Director shall be responsible for the overall fundraising, public relations and management of the Coalition for Pets and Public Safety (CoPPS). CoPPS is an established non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of free and low-cost spay/neuter services through a variety of delivery systems, including two mobile spay/neuter clinics operating in the greater Southern California area.

The Executive Director shall:

  • Assist the Board and its officers in the development and implementation of strategic plans designed to attain the goals of CoPPS.
  • Develop and implement fundraising programs designed to support the ongoing operation of the organization, including solicitation of major gifts, cultivation of donors, special fundraising events, direct mail solicitation and other activities designed to increase funding support from individual donors.
  • Establish positive and proactive relationships with community non-profits organized to support animal welfare, including the funding of spay/neuter services and other clinic-related activities.
  • Coordinate the activities of the organization’s volunteers.
  • Identify corporate and foundation funding opportunities and write grant requests as appropriate. Monitor compliance with funding guidelines, and develop and submit all necessary reports and evaluations as required. Develop and monitor the implementation of assessment tools to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the services provided.
  • Promote the activities of the organization through participation in local, regional and national meetings, conferences and symposia, keeping current on the issues and methodologies related to spay/neuter programs. Attend meetings of municipal and community agencies providing related services and funding, and develop effective and mutually supportive relationships with same.
  • Develop and implement an overall communications strategy for the organization, including promotional materials, public service announcements, press releases and other efforts designed to increase the public’s awareness of the organization and enhance participation among community members. Includes efforts related to direct outreach to targeted communities involving the promotion of clinic services through written and oral presentations at appropriate community agencies and organizations.
  • Manage the overall administrative operation of the organization, including the development of financial and annual reports, insuring the timely filing of all federal and state tax and corporate documentation, monitoring adherence to the by-laws and articles of incorporation of the organization and providing liaison to financial and legal consultants. Identify and select other specialized services as may be required.
  • As requested, supervise other staff and contract service providers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may from time-to-time be identified.

The Executive Director will have:

  • Demonstrated success in a broad range of fundraising activities, including but not limited to grant development, donor solicitation and cultivation, volunteer activities and a general knowledge of the tools and methodologies of fundraising.
  • The ability to relate effectively with a broad range of constituencies, including sensitivity to cultural norms and community values. Experience in dealing proactively with community organizations and municipal agencies in the provision of services and information.
  • Ability to meet independently and effectively with donor and funding prospects to convey the importance of the organization’s mission and to assess the interest and support of individuals and organizations. Possess requisite interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the development of successful promotional materials, press releases and similar vehicles of information dissemination. Ability to prepare succinct written reports and evaluations, effective grant proposals and reports.
  • Sufficient management and administrative experience to successfully manage the affairs of the organization, preferably in the area of non-profit corporations. Shall have experience in the development of strategic goals and initiatives to further the stated goals of the organization.
  • A commitment to the stated purpose of the organization, bringing enthusiasm and dedication to the duties and responsibilities.
