On a recent episode of the popular Nickelodeon show All That, a young chimpanzee was dressed in shorts and used as a prop to get a laugh from the audience. During training, chimpanzees, orangutans, and other great apes are beaten, punched, and kicked by their trainers. When they aren’t being forced to perform, most live in tiny, empty cages. And when they are no longer useful to producers, they are often dumped at horrible roadside zoos.
