Displaying horrific footage showing federally funded experiments on monkeys, PETA’s mobile billboard truck took to the streets of D.C., covering high-traffic spots near the Capitol and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and calling on NIH to stop funding the National Primate Research Centers.

Passersby were in for a sci-fi spectacle when Charli XC Cow asked leather-clad customers, “Are you wearing my mother?” The robot, which features a state-of-the-art 3D-printed head, describes how cows suffer mutilations and violent killings in the leather industry—and also breaks into a celebratory dance whenever someone proclaims they’re wearing shoes, clothing, or accessories made of vegan leather.

To prove that vegan cheese is creaming the competition, a PETA supporter dressed as a boxer squared off at the Rocky Steps to hand out thousands of delicious dairy-free cheese snacks to hungry passersby.

PETA’s giant dino was met with waves of support outside a venue where NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya was scheduled to speak, urging him to shut down the seven federally funded national primate research centers and stop funding experiments on animals outside the U.S.

Nearly nude PETA supporters covered in ‘blood’ and lying on giant meat trays wrapped in cellophane—complete with spoof ‘humane’ labels—took aim at the bogus certification scheme used to market the flesh of animals and dupe kind consumers into paying more for the same old cruelty.

With egg profiteers bracing for a fall surge of bird flu, PETA’s “Tommy Tofu” mascot is on the case to remind everyone that it’s a shell of a good time to go vegan by dishing up 100 free vegan “egg” sandwiches in Phoenix.

A group of PETA supporters accompanied by “Bernard”—a seven-foot-tall talking animatronic bear voiced by actor Casey Affleck—kicked off a weeklong tour to warn kind people to steer clear of Three Bears General Store, where twin black bears Daisy and River are confined 24/7 to a barren concrete pit with no chance to be bears and are not allowed to roam, forage, hibernate, or engage in other natural behaviors.

Diners on their way to local eateries that serve pork are in for an earful when “Hell on Wheels”—PETA’s hyper-realistic pig transport truck that looks as if it contains real pigs on their way to slaughter—bombards them with actual recorded sounds of the animals’ panicked screams.

PETA’s Emergency Response Team fielded an after-hours call reporting a “rescue” property in rural Virginia, where dozens of dogs were confined in deplorable conditions, many without access to water, shade, or shelter. PETA helped coordinate a collaboration between animal protection groups and the local sheriff’s office, which resulted in the removal of almost 50 dogs.

PETA U.K. set up its provocative “Kittenmonger” stall outside the entrance of Lymington’s annual seafood festival, posing a powerful question to festival goers: “If you wouldn’t eat a cat, why eat a crab?” The stall served ‘Kitten Cakes’ and ‘Locally Caught Tabbies’ to challenge people’s speciesism, showing them that crabs and other marine animals are sea life, not seafood.
