Stylish Faux Fur for Every Compassionate Fashionista’s Closet

Published by .

PETA has exposed cruelty in the fur industry numerous times, and what we reveal is always the same: confinement, deprivation, mutilation, and violent deaths. Whether it came from an animal on a fur farm or one who was trapped in nature, every fur item caused an animal tremendous suffering—and killed someone. Each year, 100 million animals are killed in the fur industry. In this day and age—when the fashion industry is producing superior faux-fur alternatives that are warm, stylish, and far more eco-friendly—there is absolutely no need to abuse and kill animals for fur.

Luckily, top fashion brands and companies around the world are using high-tech and innovative faux-fur materials that are better for both animals and the environment. Here are several fashion brands selling faux-fur in their collection—because they know that compassion is always in fashion:

N’ONAT

Based in New York, N’ONAT creates faux-fur looks that are fun, sophisticated, and timeless. The company’s vegan outerwear boasts pelage that’s almost indistinguishable from the real thing, and its artistry will make you feel luxurious and elegant—not guilty.

Apparis

Whether you’re finding your animal magnetism in leopard print or looking sweet in candy-colored hues, Apparis has you covered (literally). This “PETA-Approved Vegan” company makes faux-fur coats and accessories that Vogue called, “The most stylish and affordable fake fur to wear all winter long.” Available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, and more than 70 other retailers in the U.S., Canada, and Japan, this female-owned brand is committed to “Faux Fur, Real Friends.”

Why Faux?

There’s nothing fashionable about killing animals for their fur. Roughly 85 percent of fur today comes from animals living captive on fur factory farms, where they’re crammed into barren metal cages, many go insane from the extreme confinement, and they’re violently killed and skinned—often while they’re still conscious. Wild animals are caught in steel-jaw traps and can languish for days while the trap cuts down to their bone. If they don’t succumb to blood loss, shock, dehydration, or attacks by predators, they’re shot, strangled, or bludgeoned to death when the trapper returns.

Pledge to go fur-free and let the exploitative fur industry know that you won’t buy any item that’s stolen off someone’s back.
