Enter TeachKind’s 2021 Teacher Appreciation Contest

Please note: This contest is now over.  Check back soon to read all about the winner and runners-up!

May is National Teacher Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and thank educators for all their hard work and dedication to making the world a better place for everyone. It also means that it’s time for TeachKind’s annual Teacher Appreciation Contest!

Our team of former classroom teachers knows how demanding being an educator can be—and we can only imagine how difficult this past year has been for teachers, with school shutdowns, the sudden switch to remote learning, and many other obstacles brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of these challenges, teachers have come up with innovative ways to continue serving their students and instilling in them the values of compassion and empathy. That’s why we’re delighted to be able to give back to those who help bring so much good into the world through humane education.

There are countless ways to teach compassion for animals, especially these days when many educators are getting creative and teaching classes online, in person with restrictions, or in hybrid learning settings. Some teachers organize school fundraisers to benefit their local animal shelter or go on animal-friendly virtual field trips instead of visiting roadside zoos, marine parks, or animal circuses. Others work to make dissection digital at their school or incorporate lessons on animal rights into their online curriculum. No matter how you do it, every step taken to teach young people to consider the needs and wants of animals makes a difference.

Do you go above and beyond for animals while teaching? Or is there a teacher you know who does?
If so, we want to hear from you! It’s time for TeachKind’s Teacher Appreciation Contest.

Nominate yourself, a friend, a colleague, a teacher at your child’s school, or any other educator who speaks up for animals through their work. Need some inspiration? Check out last year’s inspiring winner and runners-up.

Want to Nominate Yourself or Someone Else? Here’s What to Do

Nominate yourself or another educator for TeachKind’s Teacher Appreciation Contest by filling out the form below by Friday, May 28. Let us know how you have—or your nominee has—demonstrated compassion for animals or otherwise taken action to help them this school year, and please include a photo of the nominee. We’ll choose one winner and three runners-up by assessing answers to the questions below and selecting the entries with the most inspiring responses.

Teachers, now is your time to shine—or to shine a spotlight on someone else you know who is making a difference in the lives of animals and students. We don’t expect teachers to be superhuman—this contest is simply about showcasing teachers’ creative or heartfelt efforts to teach students to have compassion for animals. So show off the actions that you’ve taken to help animals and enter! We may be featuring honorable mentions this year, too.

What Will the Winner Receive?

The winning teacher will receive a wonderful collection of prizes—valued at over $800—including the Get Me Started Bundle and the brand-new cookie box from meal-delivery company MamaSezz, a gorgeous animal-free “leather” backpack from “PETA-Approved Vegan” company von Holzhausen, a variety of cruelty-free cleaning products from ZolaTerra, and an animal-friendly gift basket designed especially for teachers. Runners-up will also receive a gift basket.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
