Hurricane Harvey has devastated much of the Texas Gulf Coast, and PETA’s Community Animal Project rescue team members, along with a staffer from our sheltering partner Virginia Beach SPCA, spent a week on the ground in Texas, where they trudged through the floodwater to search for abandoned, lost and injured animals.
These dogs had been stranded in their house for 4 days but we got them to safety ❤️ Freddie couldn't stop wagging his tail once he was reunited with his mom! #Harvey

This wasn’t the first time PETA’s rescue team came to the aid of animals put at risk by a natural disaster. Last year, supporters like you helped our team rescue animals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after historic flooding there drove thousands from their homes. PETA’s team was also on the ground helping animals in the wake of hurricanes Gustav, Irene, and Sandy, and we used boats to rescue dozens of animals stranded inside homes and on rooftops and balconies when Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans.
What You Can Do
Never leave your animals behind in a natural disaster. Hurricanes are not preventable, but the unnecessary suffering and death of animal companions are.
PETA’s Animal Emergency Fund makes it possible for us to respond quickly when disasters like the flooding in Texas put animals in danger. They, too, are devastated by natural disasters, and they, too, deserve all the help that they can get.
