Daisy’s life was uncomfortable and lonely. She was forced to spend her time chained outside. Besides her constant solitude, the most consistent part of her life was the painful inflammation of her ear due to a chronic infection that left her itchy and constantly shaking her head. The best days were when PETA fieldworkers came to deliver treats, ointment, and much-needed love. Unbeknownst to Daisy, this team of kind people was working to change her life. Watch Daisy’s rescue video now:

After four years of visits and pleading with her owner, PETA fieldworkers secured Daisy’s release. Daisy received medical treatment to clear up her ear infection and some TLC from the PETA fieldworkers who helped her survive years chained outside.

‘She’s Become a Great Part of the Family’: A Look into Daisy’s New Life

With some help from our friends at Reba’s Rescue, Daisy found a perfect home with her adopters, Josh and Niki. Although initially shy, Daisy’s fun-loving personality blossomed once she felt safe with her new guardians. She now enjoys snuggles on the couch, games of tug with a bounty of toys, and guardians who will always consider her needs as a member of the family.

PETA’s shelter is the only one in the region with an on-call team available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We take in all comers without appointments, waiting lists, or fees. We never turn away an animal in need—ever. PETA staff and volunteers are in the field every day, in all weather extremes, ensuring that animals in need, like Daisy, have food, water, and shelter.

You can help support PETA fieldworkers’ vital work in caring for dogs like Daisy, who are forced to live outside, with a generous donation.

You can also advocate for tethering bans in your community, joining thousands of other caring individuals across the U.S., and work with elected representatives to pass ordinances that ban or restrict chaining.

Dogs should never be left outside unattended. However, when they’re outside and deprived of access to water, food, or shelter, the situation becomes an emergency—and you should contact local authorities immediately. If they’re unresponsive, contact PETA for help. Anyone who leaves animals outside to suffer in severe weather may face criminal charges. Dogs’ well-being—even their lives—could depend on you.
