Cruelty can be found in every stitch of the fur-trimmed jackets and angora wool sweaters and accessories that Backcountry.com carries. So why would anyone in good conscience sell items that come from animals who have been caged their entire lives and denied everything natural and important to them? Despite hearing from PETA about the rampant abuse of animals in these industries, the retailer refuses to stop profiting from this cruelty.
Wild animals such as coyotes trapped for fur-trimmed jackets can suffer for days and face blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. Mothers desperate to get back to their starving pups have been known to attempt to chew off their own limbs to escape. And animals who don't succumb to the elements, blood loss, infection, or predators are often strangled, stomped on, or bludgeoned to death when the trapper returns.
Animals trapped on farms don't have it any better. These raccoons, rabbits, and other animals spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, where fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.
The plight of angora rabbits who scream in pain as they are stretched across boards and the wool is violently ripped out of their sensitive skin is just as gut-wrenching. After this terrifying and painful ordeal, which the rabbits endure every three months to produce items such as the sweaters and hats sold by Backcountry.com, many of them appear to go into severe shock.
The world's largest clothing retailers, including Zappos, QVC, Gap Inc., ASOS, H&M, PUMA, Lands' End, Eddie Bauer, Inditex, and Calvin Klein, have dropped both fur and angora wool because their production is so unethical. But Backcountry.com doesn't care.
Those with a true appreciation for nature and the outdoors would never condone this egregious cruelty to animals. Tell Backcountry.com to stop selling fur and angora wool immediately.
