Toronto -- It's no secret that Toronto-born M.C. k-os has a powerful voice—and this fall, he's using that voice to speak up for animals by launching PETA's "Never Be Silent" campaign, which urges everyone to speak up against cruelty to animals. Not only is k-os the star of a brand-new "Never Be Silent" ad—which features him behind a camera and advises, "A picture is worth a thousand words. Document suspected animal abuse, and report it immediately"—he is also granting PETA.org the exclusive worldwide stream of his brand-new single released in Canada, "The Dog Is Mine," from his highly anticipated double LP BLack on BLonde, out on November 27 .
k-os' campaign also includes an exclusive PETA interview in which the longtime vegetarian stresses the importance of breaking down barriers between species. "When it comes to animals, we are an animal," he says. "We've put animals in categories. There's bad ones—rats and whatever—and there's beautiful ones like dogs and fluffy ones. And that's just gross. Man should love all animals equally and realize it's part of their family."
PETA's "Never Be Silent" campaign offers tips on how we can all use our voices to help those whose cries fall on deaf ears, such as by sharing vegan meals with friends and family, posting pro-animal messages on Facebook or Twitter, holding public demonstrations outside businesses that hurt animals, wearing animal rights T-shirts, and much more.
k-os, who previously teamed up with PETA for a pro-vegetarian ad campaign, is part of a long list of compassionate Canadians, including Justin Bieber, Megan Park, Sarah McLachlan, Ryan Gosling, Grace Park, Tricia Helfer, Laura Vandervoort, and Sum 41, who have joined with PETA to fight animal abuse.
