Tucson, Ariz. — Vegans love decadent desserts as much as the next guy. And with all the meat-, egg-, and dairy-free food choices available, people who are concerned about animals, the environment, and their health have lots to choose from—and that includes desserts. With that in mind, PETA has just completed its first-ever ranking of the top five vegan pies from restaurants across the U.S., and the Banana Cream Pie from Tucson's Lovin' Spoonfuls has grabbed the number three spot.
In addition to pies, cakes, and other desserts, Lovin' Spoonfuls offers a lunch and dinner menu with outstanding vegan options. All of the desserts are made on the premises from scratch, and the Banana Cream Pie is mouthwatering proof that the only things missing from this vegan masterpiece are the cruelty and ill-health effects associated with eggs and dairy products.
Taking top honors was the Apple Crumb Pie à la Mode from the award-winning and 100 percent vegan Sublime restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Claiming the number two spot was the Chocolate Silk Peanut Butter Pie from Iowa City's Fair Grounds Coffeehouse. Rounding out the top five winners were the Coconut Pie With Blood Orange Sauce from True Bistro in Somerville, Mass., and the Cranberry Walnut Pie from Louisville's Sweet Surrender Dessert Café.
"Lovin' Spoonfuls gets five green stars for meeting Americans' growing demand for fine vegan desserts in the most delicious ways," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "With all the tasty animal-free options available these days, going vegan is as easy as apple pie."
Lovin' Spoonfuls is located at 2990 N. Campbell Ave., Suite 120, in Tucson. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The telephone number is 520-325-7766.
