St. Louis -- The Pageant has won the Libby Award for Best Concert Venue from peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The fourth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is short for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people, products, and services. Visitors to peta2.com helped the group determine the winners by voting for their favorites in each category.

The Pageant, which has been delivering great music since 2000, has been very welcoming to peta2 Street Teamers by opening its doors to young activists for tabling and outreach at shows. The venue has also posted peta2 material on its social networking sites and has hosted many animal-friendly bands, including Never Shout Never, Owl City, and Killswitch Engage. The venue boasts superior acoustics and optimal sight lines to the stage.

"The Pageant has become one of our favorite spots to do outreach because the venue's staff members really take an interest in our success," says peta2 Director Dan Shannon. "By helping our Street Teamers, The Pageant helps expose the suffering of animals on factory farms and fur farms and in laboratories, circuses, and zoos."

The Pageant won out over other popular concert venues, including the Mixtape Cafe in Grand Rapids, Mich., and the 9:30 Club and the Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Thirty-eight Libby Awards were given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly athlete and record label to the most animal-friendly rock band and clothing company. Winners will receive plaques and will be featured on peta2.com.
