Ottawa -- An animated group of "snowmen" will converge on Parliament Hill Wednesday for a unique protest. They'll be donning black hats, red scarves, and carrot noses--and carrying signs that read, "There's Snow Excuse for Cruelty--Stop the Seal Slaughter."
When: Wednesday, January 20, 12 noon
Where: In front of Parliament Hill, 111 Wellington St. (between O'Connor and Metcalfe streets), Ottawa
"Just because it's cold outside, it doesn't mean that we have to have cold hearts," says PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews. "We hope that the protesting snowmen will melt a few hearts when it comes to the cruel seal massacre."
Last year, three-fourths of the nearly 300,000 harp seals expected to be killed were spared--in part because the price of seal fur has plummeted as international outrage against the seal slaughter rises. The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and world leaders--including President Barack Obama and bear-hunter Vladimir Putin--have spoken out against the massacre.
Broadcast-quality video footage of the seal slaughter is available. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
