Seattle -- The Field Roast Grain Meat Co.'s Celebration Roast has won the Libby Award for Best Vegan Meat from peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The fourth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is short for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com helped peta2 determine the winners by voting for their favorites in each category.

The Field Roast Grain Meat Co. was founded in 1997 by chef David Lee, who combines traditional Buddhist food with European flavors. The Seattle-based company offers a variety of vegan grain-based "meats" that are low in fat and high in protein. The Celebration Roast is handmade and filled with sausage-style stuffing, fresh butternut squash, Granny Smith apples, and mushrooms seasoned with rosemary, thyme, and sage. Field Roast's Celebration Roast is available in 1-pound and 2-pound sizes and can be found at Whole Foods, Safeway, and New Seasons Market locations nationwide.

"We commend Field Roast for offering products that are as good to animals as they are to your taste buds," says peta2 youth outreach coordinator Paige Snyder. "Field Roast is among the growing number of companies that are satisfying America's hunger for healthy and humane cuisine."

Field Roast's entry won out over other popular vegan meats, including Gardein BBQ Pulled Shreds, Match's Ground Breakfast Sausage, and Lightlife Smart Deli Pepperoni.

Thirty-eight Libby Awards were given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly athlete and record label to the most animal-friendly rock band and clothing company. Winners will receive plaques and will be featured on peta2.com.
