Seattle -- Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing
array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So for the 11th
straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks,
and Safeco Field made PETA's list this year, coming in at number two.
"Ichiro is a legend in Seattle, in Japan, and around
the world—and many of Safeco Field's vegetarian options, including the IchiBan
veggie dog, the Seattle chili veggie dog, and the Bombay veggie dog, have
international appeal as well," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein.
"With so many great new vegetarian options, it's no wonder that Safeco Field moved up in PETA's vegetarian-friendly ballpark standings."
Safeco Field's IchiBan veggie dog is topped with
teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot, shredded nori, and a squiggle
of creamy vegan dressing. Its Seattle chili dog comes with vegetarian chili and
vegan cream cheese, and its Bombay veggie dog features curried garbanzo beans,
mango chutney, and a splash of coconut cream. Other big hits leading the
vegetarian lineup include the grilled vegetable Panini, veggie burger, pasta,
and vegan soup.
Sliding into first place is Citizens Bank Park, home
of the Philadelphia Phillies, which serves barbecue-pit-style
vegetarian beef and decadent faux-chicken sandwiches. Rounding out the top five
are the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park, the Oakland A's O.co Coliseum,
and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium. Hammond Stadium, home
of the Fort Myers Miracle, took top honors in the minor leagues.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10
Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate
from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league
