PETA Will Draw Attention to Animal Suffering, Death in Wool Industry
For Immediate Release:September 26, 2012

New York -- By showcasing a flock of sheep in Bryant Park on Thursday, the Campaign for Wool hopes to draw the attention of the fashion trade—but it's also drawing protesters from PETA, who will flock to the event, with an activist wearing a "bloodied" and bandaged sheep costume to protest industry practices, such as shearing sheep so quickly and roughly in order to meet wool quotas that many animals are left with bleeding, gaping wounds that can lead to infection and even death.
When: Thursday, September 27, 12 noon
Where: 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue, Bryant Park, New York
"The wool industry has been pulling the wool over consumers' eyes for decades," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Wool is, literally, a bloody business, and PETA encourages shoppers to choose natural and synthetic fashions that don't have animal suffering woven into every thread."
