Norfolk, Va. -- Perez Hilton has won the Libby Award for Favorite Internet Personality from peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The fourth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is short for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com helped the group determine the winners by voting for their favorites in each category.

Hilton is well-known for his acerbic wit and celebrity commentary on PerezHilton.com, and this year he lent the power of his personality to peta2 as part of the organization's "Save the Seals" celebrity ad series. Not only did he appear in a print ad and exclusive peta2 interview, he also launched the campaign by posting its first images to his top-ranked blog.

Hilton frequently speaks out against the fur trade on his site and encourages his readers to be kinder to animals. "Everyone in their own small ways can help make the lives of animals better--on a daily basis," he told peta2, "[f]rom something as simple as not buying makeup that's tested on animals to spaying and neutering [so that] ... we don't have tons of animals in the shelters, and ... not wearing fur."

Perez won out over other popular online celebrities, including the Suicide Girls, Audrey Kitching, and Deefizzy.

Thirty-eight Libby Awards were given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly athlete and record label to the most animal-friendly rock band and clothing company. Winners will receive plaques and will be featured on peta2.com.
