Little Rock, Ark. -- Wearing nothing but strategically placed lettuce leaves and holding signs that read, "Turn Over a New Leaf--Go Vegan," sexy PETA Lettuce Ladies will brave the cold in order to hand out delicious, free Tofurky sandwiches to passersby in Little Rock on Wednesday. The ladies will also give out copies of PETA's "Vegetarian Starter Kit" to help people offset holiday weight gain and resolve to do better in 2010 for their health, the well-being of the planet, and animals.
When: Wednesday, January 6, 12 noon
Where: Intersection of Statehouse Plaza and Center Street, Little Rock
Vegans are, on average, significantly trimmer than meat-eaters, and they are less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, strokes, and diabetes. Also, a recent United Nations report concluded that raising animals for food produces more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, SUVs, trains, and planes in the world combined. And each year, the meat industry confines billions of animals to severely crowded spaces and subjects them to mutilations, injuries, and a terrifying death.
"Turning over a new leaf doesn't have to be difficult," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "With an abundance of delicious vegan choices now available, there's never been a better time to make the switch to a kinder, gentler, healthier diet."
