Dallas--Holding signs that read, "All Fur Coats Are Stolen," PETA members will gather outside the trial on Tuesday of Sandy McGriff (aka Kathy Robinson), pastor of the Church of the Living God in east Oak Cliff. McGriff faces charges stemming from her alleged burglary of two fur coats and other items from the home of one of her parishioners last Christmas Eve. PETA's point? That the only rightful owners of any fur coat are the animals from whom they were violently stolen.
When: Tuesday, March 22, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Outside the Frank Crowley Courts Building, 133 N. Riverfront Blvd. (near the intersection of N. Riverfront Boulevard and Commerce Street), Dallas
"Fur is stolen property from the moment that it's ripped from an animal's back," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Sandy McGriff will have to defend her actions, but every furrier, trapper, fur farmer, and fur-wearer should have to defend theirs too."
PETA wants consumers to know that animals who are trapped for their fur suffer excruciating pain before their chests are stomped on or their necks are broken by trappers. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy cages before they are killed by poisoning, gassing, or anal electrocution. In China—now the world's leading fur exporter—animals, including cats and dogs, are sometimes skinned alive.
