Anti-Fur Protesters Call for Compassionate Fashion

San Francisco -- Holding signs that call Michael Kors the "Designer of Death," PETA supporters will descend on the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary's fundraising fashion show--at which Kors is scheduled to be the guest of honor--on Wednesday evening. Protesters will display a lifelike skinned "fox" and show video footage from an undercover investigation of a fur farm.
When: Wednesday, April 28, 5 p.m. Where: The Westin St. Francis, 335 Powell St., between Geary and Post streets, San Francisco
"Michael Kors belongs on the runway of shame for including fur in his creations," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "With so many warm, luxurious faux-fur materials available, there's simply no excuse for torturing animals for fashion."
Animals trapped in the wild can suffer for days before they're shot, stomped on, or bludgeoned to death. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals on fur farms are confined to tiny, filth-encrusted wire cages in which they are exposed to all weather extremes. The animals are then poisoned, gassed, injected with weedkiller, anally electrocuted, or--as often happens--skinned alive and tossed aside to endure a slow, agonizing death.
Protesters will also target Kors' trunk show at Saks Fifth Avenue on Thursday at 12 noon.
